Catty has a Lake?

About 10 years ago I was reading the paper about the Catasauqua Lake, and I think.... Catty has a lake? Well, technically no, Catasauqua Lake is located in Hanover Township. It is a 4 1/2 acre manmade lake. Hanover Township bought the lake from Lehigh County for $1.00 over a decade ago. When I visited it 10 years ago is was a tad nasty, all green with algae.

Now I read in both the Catty Press and Morning Call that the lake is being restocked after the Lake had been dredged out. If you Google Map the lake and click on the satellite view, you can see it from above as a dry lake bed, which is kinda cool. The lake in now 9 feet deep all around and they have added docks. There are even little islands in the lake, I have named the big one Bev's Island, just because I don't think they are named and I think they should be.

It really is beautiful I went Monday and took some pictures. The dock scared me because it was plastic wood, but it is really sturdy and I eventually got over my fear. The paper mentioned that you cannot fish the lake yet. The fish need about three years to rebuild their population. I did see one fish, I believe it was a minnow.

As for why it is named Catasauqua Lake and when it was built, I don't know. I cannot find any information online and Hanover Township did not return my phone calls, probably because they thought I was some crazy lady, I tried to explained that I do this blog, but it made me sound crazier. If I do get answers I will let you know. In the meantime that's......another Day in Catasauqua.
